Welcome to the new season.....Spring 2008After the wettest January ever, the recent sunshine should get you thinking about tennis again We have had a number of changes to the committee and I would therefore like to thank Maureen Meeks for all her help and support over the years, particularly since she has already done her stint as a committee member and Chairman in the 1990's. Many thanks also go to Alison Smith, who has handled the financial side for a number of years and we hope that we will see them both on court. We would like to welcome Paul Nicholls, who has taken over as our Treasurer, and look forward to seeing more of him - particularly on court. Olwen Maeers has relinquished her duties as Membership Secretary but I would like to thank her very much for stepping in when we needed her most. Frances Billington has very kindly taken on her mantle. Should any of you wish to get more involved we are always looking for volunteers to either go on the Committee or help run our events, so please contact any one of the committee members. Our Junior Organiser,Joanna Hale, will for the last time be running special 'turn up and play' sessions for the 11+ juniors with the help of volunteers. If you would like to help with any of these, please contact her directly. We are now actively looking for someone - preferably a parent - to take over this very important post. If you are interested, please contact Joanna. We have finally had the drainage work done during January and the courts are back in full use. We now have to be patient and hope that the drain will remove the problem of waterlogging. If this works as planned, we should be able to have the courts re-laid in the Autumn. The Bucks LTA has for the first time introduced a two pair format for the summer matches and we have entered two men's teams of two pairs. This means that you will only have to play 4 sets so hopefully more members will want to play competitively. If you are interested, do contact any of the captains. The ladies have entered two three pair teams as previously. We hope that you have all signed up for free membership of British Tennis - it is important for the Wimbledon tickets! Do keep an eye on the notice board and our web-site for further details of our events. We hope you will have an enjoyable tennis season. Kirsten Stein - Chairman |
